A bag that will accompany you on all your adventures for years to come. A timeless and luxurious design with plenty of space to fulfill all your wishes. That's what I had in mind when designing the Wish Tree.
But how does the design process work? In this blog I would like to give you a little look behind the scenes. It all starts with an idea, of course. My brain is always full of inspiration and that's why I tend to carry a pen and sketchbook with me. I almost have a bookcase full of sketchbooks already.
Keecie stands for sustainability. Our bags, wallets and accessories are made of sturdy Italian leather which will last for years. The Wish Tree is a shoulder bag in which you can carry everything you need when you go out for the day. Your wallet, phone and keys of course, but also your water bottle and an A5 notebook. As you now understand, a notebook is an essential item for me that I always carry with me. On the inside you will find multiple compartments and there is a zipper over the entire width of the bag.
As I said, I first draw a new design on paper and then we make it into a paper model in the Keecie-studio. We adjust this design until it has the desired dimensions and functionality. After that we make a test model out of leather, which we again extensively test: the way of wearing the bag, the way of closing it, an extra compartment or not. We keep going until we are fully satisfied.
The final test model is then sent to our sewing studio in Poland, where they make a first model copy. We are always very excited when it arrives at our studio. Has it turned out as we hope and expect? Often a few very last small adjustments are needed. It really is all about the details.
Finally, I design the print on the inside. Because at this stage I know exactly what the dimensions of the bag will be. My biggest source of inspiration is nature. A walk in the park or in a botanical garden such as De Hortus in Amsterdam can easily lead to a new Keecie print. In the Wish Tree shoulder bag and the Small Wishes wallet you will find a print of an olive branch. The symbol of hope and peace!
When the print is ready, the new design can be put into production. First, special dies are made to cut out the leather parts. After that the print is screen printed on the leather and each bag is sewn together on the sewing machine. Everything by hand and in that sense every item is unique!
This time I also wanted to design a matching wallet: the Small Wishes. There are two compartments in it. One for your bank notes and one for your cards. A beautiful gift to wish someone a happy birthday, festive holidays or just a nice day! Because nothing is more fun than making someone's wishes come true.
