A leather bag can be a lifelong companion, but it requires the right care and maintenance. By taking good care of your bag, you can ensure it remains beautiful and functional for a longer time. At Keecie, we want to make things as easy as possible for you. These 8 tips will help you take good care of your leather bag.
We proudly use the highest-quality Italian leather for our Keecie products. Our carefully crafted leather requires minimal maintenance. However, it’s still important to care for your bag when necessary, especially when dealing with stains or accidental spills.
Tips for maintaining your leather bag
1. Remove stains with a gentle soap
If you have a stain on the leather, dampen a cloth and apply some mild soap to it. For example, you can use green soap. Squeeze out the excess moisture and gently rub the area in circular motions. Avoid pressing too hard on one spot to prevent colour variations.
2. Dry your bag upside down
While leather is not waterproof, the leather we use is treated to withstand water, such as rain. If your bag gets wet, for example, because of a water bottle, it is best to dry it upside down. Place absorbent material, like paper towels, inside to soak up any moisture. Avoid placing your bag on direct heat sources, as they can cause striping or damage to the leather.
3. Protect your bag from prolonged sunlight
It is better to protect your bag from direct sunlight for longer periods. This can dry out and damage the leather. Try to store your leather bag in a cool and dry place.
4. Clean interior with a damp cloth
Our Keecie bags have no lining. The interior of our bags is also made of leather. Want to clean the inside of your bag? Use a damp cloth to gently clean the inside. Be careful not to rub too forcefully.
5. Use a wonder sponge for ink stains
Has an ink stain accidentally appeared on the leather? If you have a bag made of colored leather, you can remove it with a magic sponge. Does your Keecie bag have the 'Used Look'? Then it is best to avoid rubbing too hard and be cautious with dark jeans as they can transfer colour onto the Used Look-leather.
6. Remove scratches from Used Look-leather
Is there a scratch on the Used Look-leather? Remove it easily with a hairdryer. The warm air will heat up the wax layer, causing the scratch to disappear like magic.
7. Handle your bag with care
Your leather bag is a valuable item and should be handled with care. Avoid carrying sharp objects inside the bag. They can cause harm or deform the leather. Try to prevent your bag from bumping or rubbing against surfaces. Carry your bag in a comfortable way to avoid excessive weight on the handles or straps.
8. Make use of our repair service
