Keecie x Van Gogh Museum: a match made in heaven

At Keecie, we’re fond of special collaborations, especially when they’re as inspiring as our partnership with the Van Gogh Museum… that’s one to treasure!

Years ago, we created a limited edition of the Cat Chase series based on Van Gogh’s Almond Blossom from 1890. And now we’ve been given the chance again! Only this time, we’ve taken it even further.

Two masterpieces, one challenge

The Van Gogh Museum asked us to translate not one but two iconic paintings into a screen print. Alongside the delicate Almond Blossom, we also worked with the world-famous Sunflowers. An exciting challenge, because our prints are always white on colour. So how do you capture the intensity of Van Gogh’s brushstrokes that way?

Fortunately, we were given access to extremely detailed scans of the original paintings. This allowed us to study every petal and brushstroke and translate them into a screen print that truly does justice to the original.

Klaartje: “I enjoyed this project so much! I spent hours immersed in the tiniest details, details you normally can’t see so well in the museum. It was fascinating to discover how Van Gogh painted each flower just a little differently. A journey of discovery, all from my own desk!”

At the moment, the special Keecie x Van Gogh items are available in the museum shop in Amsterdam, and some pieces are also available online. A perfect reason to visit the museum again and see the paintings in real life!

For the Almond Blossom series, we created a spacious work bag in forest green that easily fits your laptop, a pencil case in cement, a small bag that can also be worn crossbody in cement, a green wallet, and a coral-red key ring featuring an almond blossom print:

You’ll find the beautiful sunflowers print on the small yellow crossbody bag and the cognac-coloured wallet. As a bonus, we also designed a key ring in our lovely ‘painters blue’ shade, featuring Vincent’s signature.
