How did you come up with the idea for this bag?
An elegant, petite customer came to the Keecie Studio and wanted to buy a work bag. I showed her the Back Yard, which other customers often buy as a computer bag. When she put the bag on, I found it quite big on her.
That's when I came up with the idea of designing a more compact work bag that fits a 13-inch MacBook exactly, but doesn't fit too much else. Because: the bigger the bag, the more you will bring.
The Plant Sitter fits exactly what you need: your laptop and, if necessary, a charger, a notebook, a pencil, your wallet and your phone. So no fruits or lunch boxes... the bag is small, slim and elegant. As a result, it's also nice and light.
You can wear it in several different ways. A little closer to your body, wearing it on your back as a messenger bag or on your belly as a fanny pack. (Like the Lazy Boy, the Little Fox, and our new bag, the Double Up.) But of course, you can also just wear it as a cross-body.
How did the print come about?
During a brainstorming session at our studio, we sketched out possible prints. We came up with the idea of doing something with the calming effect of plants. Plants give you oxygen and energy, both of which you can really use during a busy day at work. And the great thing is: these plants require very little care!
How does it work, going from sketch to final product?
The final product comes about in close cooperation with our sewing studio in Poland. We go to Poland once a year; other than that, we talk a lot on Zoom and sometimes we send short videos explaining what we mean. We make the first sample ourselves in Amsterdam, and after that, a number of samples are sent to us from Poland. That way, we can refine the design together.
To give you an example: on the last sample the studio sent, I didn't like the way the zipper was attached to the bag. We sent them a video showing that detail. They then came up with a great new solution. I am very happy with the lovely little tab that is now attached to the zip. This allows you to pull the zip tight while closing it with the leather runner.
A bag for everyone
Our goal was to make a unisex bag. The shape and size are neutral, and the bag has a timeless appeal. With its sleek look, it can be worn by anyone and can be enjoyed for years!
